Whitney & Jarod: Sneak Peek! | Brooklyn Engagement Photographer | Brooklyn Bridge Park | DUMBO
I met up with Whitney and Jarod this Tuesday evening for an engagement session in Brooklyn. We scheduled their session right at the golden hour before sunset, and were rewarded with some GORGEOUS light! Loads more where these came from, stay tuned!
Carol & Bob | City Hall Wedding Photographer | Manhattan Marriage Bureau | Central Park
When I first had coffee with Carol on a rainy day in September, I knew right away I wanted to work with her. She was incredibly genuine and knew the most important part of this whole deal was the marriage not the fancy wedding affair. Fast forward a few weeks to their elopement, and I was right. This day was wonderful in every way.
As I mentioned in their preview post, Carol and Bob are the real deal. These guys have known each other for 18 years, live together on a sail boat, and they couldn’t have been more radiant and in love on their wedding day if they tried. Couples like Carol and Bob are the reason I love shooting elopements. They were one of the warmest, happiest, most in love couples I’ve worked with and left me with a smile on my face for the rest of the afternoon.
I’m not sure I’ve had a more smiley bride then Carol. She’s either laughing or has an amazing grin on her face in about 99.7% of the photos I took. This girl was seriously glowing sunbeams the whole afternoon.
I think she likes him… What do you guys think?
Their friends and family from Canada came down for the day and were loads of fun.
I’ve seen a lot of City Hall weddings at this point. But you guys, this one might just have been my favorite. Not only because we got the awesome officiant guy at City Hall (seriously, he’s amazing for each and every wedding of the million I’m sure he does each day) but because of Carol’s reaction to a little ring surprise. Bob warned me beforehand that there would be a special surprise with the rings, but didn’t tell me what. Well, Carol’s face says everything don’t you think?:-)
Carol had been wanting a special fancy wedding band, but Bob said it was too grand and that they couldn’t afford it. So they got simple bands instead. Little did she know, he had purchased it for her without her knowing as surprise on their day.
The officiant saw how excited she was and basically said, “You can go ahead and give him a kiss now if you like!” It was about the sweetest thing ever.
Yay! After the wedding, we all hopped in a limo and headed up to Central Park for a few more portraits!
We ended the afternoon with Bob and friends serenading everyone with a song written just for Carol. Bob and Carol, thank you SO much for having me! You day was just fantastic and I had a wonderful time getting to know you both! Best wishes and loads of congratulations!
Diana & Bobby | Vermont Wedding Photographer | Craftsbury, VT
Diana and Bobby found me through APW right about when I found out I was going to be moving up to Vermont. She gave me a call and asked if I’d be interested and it turned out their wedding was literally 3 days after I moved in. How perfect is that timing? I couldn’t say no! In addition, I also found out that Diana went to undergrad in Minnesota and knows people I played volleyball with in high school! It was so fun to meet a few other Midwestern folks at the wedding.
This wedding was just awesome, I’m so excited I got to be a part of it. Diana and Bobby are two of the most laid back, fun people I’ve gotten to work with and this wedding was so perfectly them. They held things at a house way out in the middle of nowhere in Craftsbury, VT. Seriously, I don’t know if I’ve ever driven that far on a dirt road. But, it was worth it. The setting was beautiful.
I love the pint glass favors and the paper cut out decorations!
I’m kind of in love with this ring shot.
These two were married overlooking the mountains. Just perfect.
They followed things up with an awesome reception that included a pig roast and brick oven pizzas! YUM!
Diana and her friends also can throw a crazy fun dance party!
Oh! And! Because they’re amazing, they had an aunt bring in ice cream cake from a special place Diana used to work at in Boston on dry ice. ICE CREAM CAKE! Why does this not happen at every wedding?? Side note: I love ice cream.
Just before the sunset I also made sure to snag them for a few more portraits. LOVE the golden mountain light!
And then it was back to the party!
Serious fun times had by all.
Diana and Bobby, I can’t thank you enough for such a warm welcome and amazing introduction to the Northeast Kingdom. You guys are awesome! May you have many wonderful years ahead! Congrats!
Emily & Matt | Minneapolis Wedding Photographer | Old Arizona Studio
Emily is one my very best friends. She and I have known each other since our freshmen year in college and have literally been around the world and back together since then! She’s one of the best people I know, and I’m so incredibly happy that she found someone equally awesome in Matt. I was honored to shoot their wedding, but these two were so glowing and happy and easy to work with, it made my job pretty easy.
They were married at the Old Arizona in South Minneapolis, a very cool arts space with a great mission. Bonus, the surrounding spaces around the building also made for excellent photo taking!
Emily and Matt, like me, are both travel addicts, thus their card box was pretty darn near perfect.
I love the idea of having everyone write you a note for your 1st, 5th, and 10th anniversaries!
They got married on a day that kept raining on and off, but things held off just long enough for us to grab a few fun portraits around the building!
You kids make my heart happy.
Love both of these.
Emily, I love that your hands are so proper, even being tackled.
They were the first ceremony I’ve been to officiated by a Zen Buddhist Priest.
I love you both and am so excited for the many adventures you’re going to have together!
PS. You best be getting that guest room ready in Bhutan! I will be there!
Thanks to the lovely Kate for snapping a photo of me and the bride!
Brooke & Kristen | New York City Elopement Photographer | Central Park | Ladies Pavillion
Brooke and Kristen are both graduate students in Georgia and came up to NYC to get married on a beautiful summer morning. This was just part of their wedding festivities as they also had a big celebration and wedding in Ohio the following week as well!
The ceremony was in the Ladies Pavilion, performed by the fabulous Genevieve of Cheerleader for Love (hurray APW connections!)
I love the matching shoes!
After making things official,
hugs and a quick toast, we headed out to explore Central Park and take loads of gorgeous photos!
There also needs to a be quick pause to admire Brooke and Kristen’s gorgeous peacock purses! Aren’t they awesome?
Ladies, you two make SUCH a cute couple!
I will always love couples that are willing to take a little walk in the woods.
Dance in a meadow in sunglasses? Obviously.
Congrats ladies! Thanks so very much for having me, I had a ball! I hope you had a fantastic wedding in Ohio and a beautiful honeymoon in Italy! Best wishes for many years of happiness!
Diana & Bobby | Vermont Wedding Photographer | Sneak Peek!
Oh, you guys, this wedding. So much amazing. Thanks so much to Diana and Bobby for an incredible introduction to the Green Mountain State! I’m so pumped about these photos!
There is officially nothing like a sunset in the mountains. Gorgeous.
Have a fabulous honeymoon in Italy you two! More to come!
Emily & Matt: Sneak Peek! | Minneapolis Wedding Photography | Old Arizona Studio
Today one of my very best friends got married and I got to take photos! (Don’t worry, I got to relax and have fun too!
) I couldn’t be happier for you both!! Congratulations!
Marcia & Zach | Washington, DC Wedding Photographer | Sneak Peek!
You guys. There was a PARADE. Through the streets of DC. With a second-line band. Awesome.
So much more to come!
Beckie & Jeremy | New York City Elopement Photographer | Empire State Building
I love elopements. Seriously, I’m pretty sure if I got hitched again, I would totally elope. So much love, so little stress. Pretty much perfect any way you slice it. Beckie found me on APW (yay awesome!) and emailed me about week before she and Jeremy were heading to the city asking if I’d be up for a last minute elopement. Of course!
These guys were the sweetest couple ever.
Before their ceremony we started off with a portrait session in Central Park. It was an amazingly gorgeous day, especially for late December!
I love this image.
From the park, we made our way downtown to the Empire State Building. That’s right, these two went for the top! 102 floor I believe to be exact. Word of advice to anyone who’d like to attempt this in the future, be sure to get express tickets! (Beckie did this in advance and it was marvelous.) Also, it’s a bit crowded, so be prepared for a bit of an audience and to make some tourists very happy!
Things were officiated by Cheerleader for Love, another awesome APW sponsor!
Their friends even brought them wedding cupcakes! Hurrah!
After the wedding, we had a bit of time so wandered around to Bryant Park, NY Public Library, and a quick stop at Grand Central.
Beckie and Jeremy, thanks so much for inviting me to be a part of your fantastically lovely afternoon! It was so much fun and I wish you many years happiness!
Happy Holidays!!
Top Secret Elopement
I am not a platinum wedding photographer. I never have been, and I never will be. Something about spending an entire life savings on a single day (well, let’s be honest, much, much MORE then my life savings) just seems a little silly to me.
This week, amid the pomp and circumstance of the royals getting hitched and wearing beautiful gowns and riding in horse drawn carriages I got the opportunity to shoot and be a witness for an elopement at City Hall, pretty much the opposite of a platinum royal wedding. This ceremony had no designer dress or tuxedo, no fancy shoes. It didn’t have matching center pieces and coordinating linens and tableware. In fact, there wasn’t even a carriage awaiting them after they pushed through the revolving doors.
What this ceremony did have was love. It had lots of smiles, laughter, and a bride tearing up with emotion after she married her groom. It had a couple brimming with happiness. I think too often people get carried away with the linens and dresses and jewelry and limos and forget that what matters is what started you on the crazy journey in the first place. That pretty awesome person sitting next to you.
Though I can’t share any photos of the couple as they’re still in top super secret mode, I still wanted to let them know it was so wonderful to shoot their wedding. I’ve had a silly grin on my face all day because I had such a great time. It can’t get much simpler then going to city hall, and perhaps that’s why it was so great. Their wedding was just about them, nothing more and nothing less, and that’s what I love to photograph.
