Travel Tuesday for 3.1.16: Mornington Peninsula, Australia

Traveled: November 2015 with Lindsay

Keeping up with my promise to share my Australia photos and continuing on after last weeks peek into the Blue Mountains, this week I’m bringing you all to the Mornington Peninsula. After my time in Sydney, I headed south to Melbourne to meet up with my travel buddy Lindsay, my main impetus for taking this trip to Oz. I knew I wanted to take an excursion from Melbourne, but my only question was where? There are SO many awesome spots to go in this area, so I wrestled with the decision for a long time. Great Ocean Road? Wineries? Good decisions to have for sure. In the end, since our time was limited, and I really didn’t want to spend loads of time in a car before a 15 hour flight home, we decided on Mornington Peninsula, and I’m so glad we did.

Mornington was about a 1.5 hour drive from Melbourne, making it an easy day trip or, if like us you want a bit more time, a great overnight spot as well. I certainly wished we had a few more days as from what I saw it was awesome and well worth a few nights at least. In our short trip we managed to get in some wine tasting at beautiful vineyards with views of the sea, hikes along the coast, finally saw kangaroos (Australia trip complete!), and got in some photo time with the colorful bathing boxes along the Dromana foreshore. If you’re in Melbourne, I highly recommend renting a car and heading out for a day or two, you won’t be disappointed!
