Travel Tuesday for 3.29.16: Granada, Spain

As many of you know I spent my junior year of college studying abroad in Spain. I spent the weeks in Toledo, a little historic town about an hour south of Madrid and many of the weekends traveling about. Throughout the year I managed to visit most every region of Spain, however one of the cities that eluded me was Granada. At the time I oddly didn’t really know about the Alhambra. I wasn’t aware what a wonderful place this city was, which in the end was for the better.
Alex, my husband, had also been to Spain on the same program I was two years before, and had also missed Granada on his trip. We had been back to Spain twice since our college days, but both times still managed to miss this city.
When we discussed where we wanted to go on our winter trip lots of places got thrown in the mix, but finally we decided we were finally going to make our pilgrimage to the missed destination in our beloved Spain. We booked tickets to the illustrious Alhambra well in advance, making sure this time we would finally get to see the crowned jewel. And it was so well worth the wait.
I’m so glad I got to experience it with Alex and that I waited to see the Alhambra until I actually had a grown up camera and better appreciation for the incredible place it is. I quickly fell in love with this beautiful city and could wander the tiny winding lanes for days on end. While it was grey and overcast on the day we visited the Alhambra I was still completely awestruck. The incredible details in every single corner of the palace were amazing. The views it offers over the surrounding town are also second to none. If you haven’t been to see it, put the Alhambra on your must visit list. As a photographer, the Alhambra and Granada have officially been added to my dream destination wedding location list!
