Sam and Joe first reached out to me many months ago to photograph their wedding at Gran Electrica in Brooklyn. I love Gran Electrica weddings, the location, the tacos, their back garden is great! Then, cue 2020 craziness, and well, you know the story. Flexibility is key! Sam and Joe decided to keep their original date, but turn things into an NYC rooftop micro wedding instead. They managed to keep the tacos, and just traded the restaurant for a view of the skyline! It worked out amazingly.
The whole week things had been threatening rain, I even brought my umbrella along when I met up with Samantha and her girls for getting ready. However, as the girls got their hair done and make up applied, every time I looked outside the weather kept clearing. It turned into blue skies and sunshine as we headed over for the ceremony! Hurray!
Sam and Joe are lucky enough to live in a building with access to the roof, and their roof in Astoria has a view of the skyline. It turned out to be the perfect place for a rooftop micro wedding! Their closest friends joined them along with their family to celebrate, while the two dad’s did the officiating. After making things official via zoom with Daniella of Once Upon a Vow, we headed back down the fire escape to the apartment and around their neighborhood for portraits. I love that we captured both their home along with all their favorite spots, from the local fruit stand to a favorite bar with the Queens backdrop.
We finished off the night back up on the roof with dinner catered from the local taco truck and brews from the Gowanus Brewery. Everything was delicious and the scenery and sunset was perfect. It was the best ending to a fabulous day!
