Best Places to Propose in New York City

Best Places to Propose in NYC

If you are looking to propose to your partner, NYC is a great city to do so! As I a New York City proposal photographer, I love capturing this special moment for couples! There are so many great spots around NYC to propose, and many have an iconic view of the NYC skyline to make for the perfect backdrop.

So which spot should you chose for your NYC proposal location? If you have a spot that’s special to you, obviously always go in that direction. However, if you’re visiting NYC from out of town and looking for something to capture the essence of New York, here are a few of my favorite spots to photograph a proposal in NYC.

Wedding Proposal at Gantry Park / Hunter’s Point South Park

Gantry Plaza State Park and Hunter’s Point South Park are neighboring parks on the Queens waterfront that offer a gorgeous view of the midtown skyline. If you’re looking for the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building in your proposal, this is your spot! Gantry Park is perfect for a proposal at sunset. The sun going down behind the buildings is always an amazing view and beautiful for photos! As an NYC Proposal Photographer, I love this location for proposals! Afterwards, you can hop on a ferry over to Manhattan to continue the celebration!

Surprise Proposal in a West Village Garden

If you’re not worried about skyline but just looking for a quiet secluded garden space in the perfect neighborhood for photos, Jefferson Market Garden is beautiful. We can capture the proposal and then head out onto the streets of the West Village which are ideal for fun engagement photos. Bonus, you’re always just steps away from an adorable café to celebrate!

My other favorite garden is on the east side, the 6BC Botanical Garden is a great one to check out for someplace quiet.

Marriage Proposal at Top of the Rock

Looking for views? You can’t go wrong with the queen of viewing decks at Top of the Rock. This is probably my favorite spot for a view of the NYC skyline and it’s amazing for proposals and for elopements in NYC. We can pick a spot for you to pop the question and I can capture it from above to get all the skyline in the photo for an amazing classic New York moment.

Central Park Surprise Proposal

There are approximately a million spots in Central Park to propose. As a proposal photographer in New York, I’m happy to recommend lots of different options depending on your needs. Do you want something private? A spot like Wagner Cove or a tucked away corner in the ramble would be perfect. If you’re looking for a view of the skyline, I’ve photographed many proposals in Central Park at Cat Rock. It’s close to all the classic spots in the park for photos and offers a beautiful view of Central Park South.

The Edge NYC Proposal

Another view deck, the Edge NYC is the highest in the city. You can just pop the question here, but they also offer special proposal packages if you’d like to have an area reserved just for you. If you opt for this route, I the staff is amazing and SO nice and they will do everything to make sure you have the perfect proposal moment in New York.

Brooklyn Bridge Park Proposal

Another great spot with lots of options for proposals. The most frequent spot for proposals here is the bit of boardwalk in front of Jane’s Carousel. However, if you’d like the same view but to be slightly less crowded, I’d encourage you to go a bit further down the boardwalk to Emily Roebling plaza. This area has loads of views, and you are also steps from Dumbo, Brooklyn which has lots of great street art murals as well. Check out my Brooklyn Bridge Park wedding guide for a run-down of all the other spots in the park! If you need suggestions, don’t hesitate to ask!

Proposal at a Private Home or Rooftop

Do you live (or have friends) somewhere with a rooftop or back garden? I always love helping make these proposals extra special with photos.

Governors Island Proposal

Would you like to ride a ferry to your proposal spot? I think Governors Island could be perfect if you want to plan a romantic picnic with a stroll or bike ride along the river. There are green spaces, fun old buildings, a hammock grove, and amazing views of the NYC Skyline and Statue of Liberty from the harbor. While sunset is great, unless you’re staying overnight, we need to be mindful of the last ferry, but any time of day could work great for a proposal here.

Domino Park Proposal

Another spot in Brooklyn with an fantastic view! I love working in Domino Park! Keep in mind this park, especially this little corner gets busy around sunset, so be prepared for a crowd if this is when you’re hoping to propose. Domino Park is in Williamsburg which is a fun neighborhood for cool street art and a bit of a grittier vibe.
