Holiday Elopement in New York City

It’s officially getting to be twinkle light season in New York City! All the holiday decorations are going up and the city is getting more festive by the day! Christmas trees will be up on the street corners soon, their fresh evergreen scent one of my favorite things about the holidays in New York! I always get a rush of holiday elopements in New York and it’s always such a fun time for wedding photos! Holiday wedding photos in NYC are always beautiful!

One of the main questions I get, especially from folks eloping from out of town, is can we take elopement photos with the Christmas tree at 30 Rock? The answer? Well, yes, and no. If your holiday elopement in NYC plans include wanting to take wedding photos at Rockefeller Center, my best advice is to get there as close to sunrise as possible. While we can certainly get photos at any time of day, the crowds can get absolutely insane, and as of last year they have limited how close you can get to the tree with lots of barricades.

Katie and Abe decide to elope last year the day after Christmas. They still wanted a festive vibe, and knew they wanted wedding photos at the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, so I met them just before sunrise at the plaza. While there were a few folks about even that early, it made for a MUCH more pleasant experience, and we were able to get some shots without having to fight any crowds of people. I do love a good twinkle light experience, and the holiday trees around town, especially at 30 Rock, never disappoint!

After getting our fill of holiday tree photos, we hopped in cab up to Central Park to get the sunrise over the lake and they tied the knot at Ladies Pavilion. It was a chilly morning, but the perfect way to close out the year! Sunrise elopements in Central Park are my favorite and the light on this crisp December morning was beautiful! After their vows, we did a wander over to Bethesda Terrace and Bow Bridge, always beautiful spots for wedding photos, especially early in the morning!

I have all my fingers crossed that we’ll get a snowy winter this year! I love a good holiday snow for wedding photos in the city!

After their Central Park elopement ceremony, we had one more spot to stop! We headed south to catch some skyline views from Brooklyn Bridge Park! Blue skies and beautiful views, the park is always gorgeous for wedding photos!
