In these crazy covid times, being flexible is the name of the game. Missy and Harley had been long distance forever, 22 flights between them, he in Australia while she was an ICU nurse in the states. They had been very much looking forward to getting married this year and had planned a beautiful wedding in Big Sur. However, then the pandemic arrived and all their plans were throw up in the air.
As Missy is a life long New Yorker, they decided the next best thing was to elope in New York and their Brooklyn micro wedding idea was born! (Side note: I had never heard of the term micro wedding before Covid, even as an elopement photographer. However, I think I like it! Some couples might not think term elopement fits what they’re doing. Micro wedding is great thing to call your day if it’s just you or a small group if that feels right to you!)
They opted to have their ceremony in the morning to avoid the midday summer heat and it turned out to be a fantastic blue sky day! Missy had her hair and make-up done early and then they met up with me at the Brooklyn Bridge to start photos. We wandered the bridge, and then headed down through Dumbo. One bright side of Covid, normally packed streets are now completely empty. You can get that Manhattan Bridge dumb shot with nary another tourist in sight!
After a round of photos, we stopped by Jane’s Carousel for their ceremony. Missy and Harley exchanged heartfelt vows with Mark Giller of One Heart Ceremonies officiating. They made things official and they we headed down the pier for a few more shots! I had to get a photo of their fun little details, Bride and Groom Covid-19 masks, Harley’s vegemite socks (a true Australian 😉 ) and Missy’s NY Islander’s, she’s a super hockey fan!
