In the past year I’ve gotten more questions about small weddings and micro weddings than ever before. Luckily, as an elopement photographer since 2011, I have lots of expertise to help couples hoping to plan their small wedding in New York.
Whether it is because you’ve postponed your big wedding due to COVID, financial reasons, or you just don’t want the stress of a huge wedding ordeal, I totally understand wanting to have your very own small wedding in NYC. What follows are a few questions to ask about having a small wedding in NYC.
"We are definitely lucky. We were thousands of miles away, strangers, and without a clue of how to get eloped. Nicki was instrumental in helping us with stuff to think about and recommendations. Come the wedding day, the photos turned out absolutely remarkable. I have never been a person that likes getting photos taken of themselves but these photos are photos that I am proud to share."

An NYC elopement? A small wedding? A Micro Wedding in NYC? What do these terms even mean? Well, to me they are all fairly similar can be used relatively interchangeably. What needs to be determined is how involved you want the day to be.
Do you want…
Just a ceremony with some quick photos?
A ceremony followed by portraits in the city and/or celebratory meal or drinks with loved ones?
A full day with hair/make-up, photos all over town, a ceremony and then a celebration with your crew?
Or something in between?
It’s really up to you and I’m happy to help with whatever size you’re hoping for. The great thing about small weddings and micro weddings is that you can make it what you want. There really isn’t a precedent of what to expect. So you do you and make it your own unique day to celebrate!
I am always honored to act as a witness for couples. So if you want to get married with just the two of you, let’s do it! Prefer to have your nearest and dearest present? That’s great too. Generally speaking when we’re talking “small weddings” we’re discussing fewer than 40 guests, usually less than 25 is the norm. I regularly work with couples who elope with just the two of them or fewer then 10 guests.
There are so many great venues to have a small wedding in NYC. Rooftops, Central Park, other city parks like Fort Tryon, Riverside Park, Carl Schurz or riverfront spots like Brooklyn Bridge Park, all are great options. Spots like Peerspace also offer lots of unique options for places with back gardens or trendy rooftops to hold a safe gathering. Restaurants like Maison May, Frankies 457, Gran Electrica or shops like Wanderlustre are great spots with outdoor gardens that can double as ceremony spots.
Of course! Check out my NYC elopement packages page for more info on rates. For small weddings, micro weddings and elopements in NYC, rates start at $875. I’m also happy to help you find whatever other vendors you might need.

As far as you can, but don’t feel pressure. I have had weddings booked recently as a few weeks out, and people booking months in advance. Whenever you have your date, shoot me an email and I’m happy to help you figure out the details!
"Not only are our wedding photos absolutely stunning, Nicki was fun to shoot with and her local knowledge of NYC really made our wedding day exactly what we wanted it to be. Coming from Australia to elope, we had no idea about most of the funky hidden spots she took us to. She was SO helpful in the lead up as well. Even helping with recommendations for restaurants to eat at after our shoot and making sure our shoot ended at the restaurant. We would not have changed a thing."
