I always love a City Hall elopement in NYC! As a City Hall wedding photographer, I always say this is the happiest government office in New York. Hannah, James and their family were definitely on board with the happiness! This was the sweetest little elopement at the City Clerk’s office in NYC.
I get lots of questions about what to wear for your New York elopement at City Hall. My answer? Whatever you love and makes you feel great! I have had couples get married jeans and others get married in evening gowns. A little sundress or matching kilts and everything in between. Hannah went the black wedding dress option and it looked amazing on her! Isn’t a white wedding dress traditional? Of course, but who cares? You do you and it’ll be perfect. Also, shoutout to James and the suspenders, excellent choice!
Another fun fact about this City Hall elopement? Hannah and James brought their little one! Especially now that City Hall elopements are taking much less time, I’m always a fan of capturing the whole family! This little dude was a champ, grandma joined us to help keep him happy and he will now always know that he was there when mom and dad got married! Hurray!

After we made it out of the City Clerk’s Office, we headed across the street to take some fun photos on the steps of the courthouse. The supreme court is always a great backdrop with the elegant steps and columns, and we made great use of it for this elopement.

After the courthouse, we decided to take a stroll over to Tribeca. Tribeca is about a 10 minute walk from the City Clerk’s Office, and it always one of my favorite neighborhoods for photos after a City Hall elopement. There’s lots of classic NYC architecture, cobbled streets, and you can even head out to the riverfront if you like. The extra awesome part about a winter elopement is that if you snag the last appointment at the Clerk’s Office, it lines up perfectly with sunset! A walk along the Hudson river meant we got loads of golden hour light and some beautiful views of both the NYC and Jersey City skylines. It was the best way to end the day!
