I read this morning that in another couple weeks, if we don’t get any snow in NYC, it will be the longest streak without snow in Central Park ever. As a winter sports enthusiast, and with two little boys who love to sled, I’m not a fan of this lack of the fluffy white stuff. However, as I have many couples who come to New York to elope in the wintertime and are hoping for a winter wonderland, I wanted to let you know that the city is still great without snow! You can have a winter elopement in Central Park without snow and it will still be lovely! In fact, while I’ve written about how to elope in New York in winter, one of the bonuses of this unpredictable season is you might get some unseasonable warmth and you can wear those short sleeves and not freeze! Hurray!
This winter elopement was in February and indeed was almost spring like outside. Tim and Gracia came over from the UK for their winter elopement in Central Park on their ten year anniversary! They opted for an early morning ceremony beneath Gapstow Bridge, and I love their location choice. There are loads of wonderful spots in Central Park to get married ( I have a whole guide that outlines many of the great Central Park spots for a wedding) but this little outcrop on the pond under Gapstow is a little hidden favorite of mine. It’s not for a big party, and you might get an audience pending the time of day, but you can’t beat the skyline behind you, and you won’t have to fend off any tourists in front either.
Hope Mirlis of A More Perfect Union performed their ceremony and it was excellent as always, Hope is the best! Gracia has the most amazing laugh and the joy on her face was shining through the entire morning!
They did it! Hurray!
After making things official we went for a little tour of the park. One of my favorite things about earlier morning ceremonies in Central Park is not only is the light usually great, but the crowds are SO much less then later in the day.
Another fun fact about Central Park mornings, if you’re a dog person, pups can be off leash until 9am, there were lots wandering the mall on this particular morning.
Seriously, aren’t these two the most gorgeous couple?!
After a wander around Central Park, we hopped in a cab to the other iconic spot in NYC, Brooklyn Bridge Park. You can’t beat the views from here, and Tim and Gracia got their fill of epic skylines for sure!
Happy almost anniversary you two! Thanks so much for having me on your special day, it was such a joy to be a part of!
