Travel Tuesday for 8.5.14: Machu Picchu, Peru
Traveled: June 2010 with Alex
Machu Picchu was the crown jewel of our two weeks in Peru back in 2010. While I am not a ruin girl for the most part, Alex LOVES them. He would go to the ends of the earth to see piles of rocks. Thus, this was his birthday present for the year. I have to say, Machu Picchu is incredible. For me, it was more the setting then the ruins themselves, set atop stunning mountain peaks. We didn’t do the Inca trail for a number of reasons, but we did wake up before the sunrise to get there as early as possible to make sure we were among the first to climb Wayna Picchu, which is the mountain in the background overlooking the ruins. This my friends, is a climb not for the feint of heart, but well worth the effort as seeing the ruins and the rest of the valley from above is breathtaking.
