Travel Tuesday 5.13.14: Lago de Atitlan, Guatemala

Guatemala. We were only traveling here for one short week, but someday I hope to be back! It’s a beautiful country, and bonus, a relatively quick flight from NYC. We ended up here because I found some ridiculously cheap airfare one afternoon, and said, hey, we should go to Guatemala, yes? And Alex, being the good husband that he is, convinced me to click purchase, generally always the right decision when it comes to travel. 🙂
While in Lake Atitlan, we only had a brief time, so stayed in the main town of Panajachel. This area is indeed quite touristy, however it’s easy to access from the bus routes and does afford lovely views of the lake and the mountains. We rented kayaks and just enjoyed lounging by the water. If I ever make it back, I’ll be sure to venture further afield into the villages that surround the lake.
