Travel Tuesday: Paro Taktsang, Bhutan | Travel Photographer

Travel Tuesday 4.29.14: Paro Taktsang, Bhutan (AKA: Tiger’s Nest)

Traveled: April 2013 with Emily

I have been to lots of amazing places around the globe, but few have been as unique and hard to get to as Bhutan. This tiny Himalayan nation isn’t somewhere you can just happen upon by chance or spontaneously make weekend plans to visit. In fact, the only reason I was able to come is because my super awesome (and amazingly generous) friends Matt and Emily happened to be living there for the year and invited me in with a special visa.

If you look up images of Bhutan, one of the first things you’re sure to stumble upon is this place. Taktsang, otherwise known as the Tiger’s Nest. Taktsang is one of the more fantastic places I’ve ever experienced, it’s not everyday you get to hike to a temple built into the side of a mountain cliff. As you climb, you’re treated to not only breakthtaking views of the temple and the cliffs tangled in colorful prayer flags, but also the beautiful Paro Valley laid out below. A once in a lifetime kind of place I won’t soon forget.
