Travel Tuesday for 2.11.14: Chinatown Market in Bangkok, Thailand
Traveled: April 2012, Solo
This was one of my most favorite days during my solo trip to Thailand last spring. As a traveler, one of my absolute favorite things to do is explore local markets off the beaten path. This is not to say that tourist attractions are bad, by all means, do not come to Bangkok and miss the Grand Palace. However, I find the neighborhoods, back streets, and side alleys of a place like Bangkok to be so much more interesting.
One this particular day I decided to get off the riverboat taxi randomly around Chinatown and then wander. No map, no idea of what I would find or really where I was going. My goal was to basically lose myself in the streets of Bangkok. I just wanted to explore and take pictures. Success, it was fantastic.
I stumbled into a flower market warehouse of sorts that then opened into a vegetable market. This was great not only because it was shaded, hence out of the heat, but led to so many wonderful photos. Looking through the images, I realize this could probably also be called a study in chili peppers. Super spicy lunch anyone?
