Travel Tuesday for 8.19.14: Sintra, Portugal
Traveled: March 2014, Solo
I saw that Sintra showed up in the NY Times this week as a travel feature and remembered that I haven’t yet shared any photos from my trip this past spring. It’s been a crazy wedding you season you guys! Anyhow, I read about Sintra in my guidebook when I was running a half marathon in Lisbon back in March. Rainbow colored castles? Moorish castles weaving through the mountains? Stunning vistas? Count me in.
This was a super easy day trip from Lisbon, perhaps a 40 minute train ride right into the city center. You can take a tourist bus up into the hills from town which I’d recommend, it’s quite a hike. From there you can easily wander from site to site, and even hike further up into the mountains to a cross way up on the mountain, which is amazing for views of the entire valley and the castles below. I bought tickets to just the Moorish walls and the Palacio de Pena, both were awesome and full of photo opportunities. If you’ve been on the search for a fairytale, this is it.
