The Bates House | Long Island Wedding Photographer | Katie & Dani

This weekend was a double header of awesome. The first celebration was the Long Island wedding of Katie and Dani. I knew I would be excited to work with them from our first phone call when one of their important questions for me was which Harry Potter house I would be in. They are also both teachers, doing their best to make the world a better place. Katie and Dani even wrote individual gratitude cards for each and every guest. These are two amazing people.

I started the day with Katie at her and Dani’s home right on the Long Island Sound. I love doing getting ready photos at home, it feels so intimate and there are so many personal touches you could never find in a random hotel room. Afterwards I headed over to the The Bates House, to meet Dani for some more getting ready shots. The Bates House was Katie and Dani’s Long Island wedding venue and was such a cool space. It’s a former private residence on the grounds of the Frank Melville Park, a beautiful wooded area complete with a red barn that’s great for photos.

Once everyone was ready to go we headed out into the park for a first look and portraits. You guys, the joy and laughter in this day? It filled up my heart to the brim. Katie and Dani were giggling the whole time. The love these two have together was wonderful to photograph. Also, for the record, you see these happy portraits? These are from two people who said they were super camera shy. For everyone who claims this excuse and thinks they can’t take good photos, I call your bluff! These two were perfection in front of the camera.

The day had been threatening rain all afternoon, and we made it exactly to the start of the ceremony before things got interesting. At the exact moment Katie and Dani entered the gazebo the loudest thunder boom ever cracked from the sky. To prove how laid back these two are, you can see their reaction… more laughter. After tying the knot amid a downpour, everyone scurried back into the house for a dance party reception!

Katie and Dani, I can’t thank you enough for inviting me to be a part of your day. You guys are awesome and I had so much fun. Congratulations and best wishes to you both!
