Travel Tuesday: Adirondacks Camping | Adirondacks Wedding Photographer

Travel Tuesday for 10.11.16: Adirondacks Region, New York

Traveled: October 2016, with Alex

It’s been months since I wrote a travel post, but the great thing about a weekend trip is there are far fewer images to go through. I also LOVE fall in New England, so I figured what better way to get another Travel feature up then with our most recent jaunt upstate for a dose of fall color and hiking.

The first time I explored the Adirondacks region was a few years back for a wedding I photographed at the Lake Placid Lodge. Ever since then I’d been wanting to go back, especially in fall. After our adventure out west earlier this summer, Alex and I decided we definitely wanted to do more camping and discussed making a fall trek upstate.

The stars aligned when I had a rare October weekend off and Alex also had off work due to the Jewish holidays and thus our plan was born. After some googling we found out you can actually camp on your own private island in some of the many lakes in the region. How cool is that? We figured out how we could rent a canoe, reserved our island campsite and were off on a fall adventure.

It’s tricky to time the fall colors, but after living in Vermont, we figured early October might be right about peak and we lucked out. The mountains were on fire with reds, yellows and oranges and it was stunning everywhere you looked. We hiked up Ampersand Mountain, right down the road from where we were camping on Lake Saranac, paddled all over the lake, relaxed in our hammock, and had fantastic time getting some fresh air. The weather was good for a decent portion, and even the rainier day wasn’t awful.

As a self employed business owner, work-life balance can be very tricky to strike, particularly in fall busy season. But I’m always so glad when I take a few days to breathe and this was the perfect fall getaway! I can’t wait to return and swim in the summertime!

The sunset on our last night was amazing! After the sun went down in spectacular fashion, the sky turned all shades of purple!
