This idea has been pinging around in my head for a couple years now. As most of you know, giving back has always been a core tenant of how I run things around here. While I contribute profits each year to social justice causes, I’ve been trying to figure out how to make an even bigger impact.
Though I’m not sure I have that all figured out just yet, I figured if I keep sitting on ideas, then nothing will happen and that’s not good for anyone. So, without further ado, I’m launching a special holiday version of what I’m calling Elope For Good. My hope is that this project will have many different iterations, but for now it’s simple. If you book me as your photographer for an NYC Elopement between now and December 27th, 10% of the fee will be donated to the International Rescue Committee.
I worked and volunteered for many years with local refugee and immigrant populations both in New York and Minnesota as an English language teacher, volunteer manager, and working in public health. I personally volunteered with the IRC as a home English tutor for refugee families and have seen first hand the good work they do. In the world today there are so many refugee populations desperately in need both here in the US and abroad. The IRC supports refugees around the world. Thus, I’m trying to do my small part to help.
