Laura and Dervin came up from Pennsylvania for their New York elopement and are one of several couples lately I’ve been able to convince to take photos at sunrise. While I know it may seem early, this elopement is a prime example of why sunrise is an AMAZING time to take photos. This deliciously lovely light is something you can’t make up! It’s all kinds of gorgeous. I also love New York at sunrise because of how quiet it is. While people often think of the Brooklyn Bridge as a place you’re dodging a million tourists to get a shot, at day break it’s quiet and peaceful. The added bonus of watching the sun come up over the river and light up the skyline is just as wonderful.
For their morning elopement we started on the Brooklyn Bridge and then wandered down through DUMBO, the Brooklyn Bridge Park and Vinegar Hill before cabbing around to the Highline and then making our way to City Hall for their ceremony. Dervin grew up on a farm and still lives just a couple miles from where he was born. When I asked if he ever thought he’d be getting hitched NYC, the answer was clearly not in a million years. It’s crazy the adventures that life takes you on. It couldn’t be more clear how excited these two were to get married, it was a joy to be a part of their day. Congratulations! Best wishes to you both!
