Travel Tuesday for 5.12.15: Roatan, Honduras
Traveled: March, 2015 with Jacquelyn
I had been wanting to dive in Honduras ever since I got my scuba certification in Thailand a couple years ago. The second largest barrier reef and some of the most affordable diving in the world? Count me in! I ended up in Colombia last year so this year I knew I was going to try and make Honduras happen. As I was playing around with trip dates, one of my oldest friends Jacquelyn told she wanted to come along for a girls trip and I am always pro encouraging others to travel, so off we went! We matched up the dates with her spring break as a teacher and though I couldn’t stay the whole week as I had another adventure planned, we had an awesome long weekend on this little island.
I knew Roatan was going to be a bit more touristy then other locales I normally travel and that was indeed the case. However, I took it for what it was and still enjoyed the views and the laid back vibe. The diving was also great, and if you’re going somewhere to learn, this is a great place to do so! I also made sure to go for a long walk exploring the coast outside the main strip and was rewarded with views of the mountains on the mainland and a beautiful serene quiet cove. If you’re headed south to dive, we had a great experience with Native Sons Dive Shop, both for the diving and as a place to stay.
