When Sonya and Dana originally emailed me detailing their idea to have their wedding aboard the Staten Island Ferry, I could barely contain my excitement! One of my favorite things about this city is that you can get married literally anywhere. New York practically overflows with options for creative photography locales, so when couples take advantage and pick somewhere unique, I am thrilled!
While I’ve ridden the ferry a few times before (protip: if you’re looking to get out on the water for great views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty, the Staten Island Ferry is FREE and leaves every half hour) this was the first time I have photographed a couple aboard. There are a few different ferry boats, we lucked out with one with a back deck that provided the perfect backdrop for Sonya and Dana to exchange their vows, officiated by Judie. They got lots of cheers from the tourists onlookers after making things official and we couldn’t have asked for a nicer ferry crew. These guys were awesome for letting us have a few minutes with the boat to ourselves after we docked on Staten Island, wishing the happy couple a huge congratulations!
After we took the ferry back to Manhattan, we jumped in a cab for a quick trip up to the High Line for some more photos on solid ground. As you can see, I’m not sure these lovely brides could be happier to be married. I can’t ask for sweeter couples. Sonya and Dana, thank you SO much for inviting me aboard for your elopement! Congratulations to you both!
